I know there are people out there that most certainly do.

They feel that somehow they don’t deserve money or that money is “evil” in some way. Maybe they haven’t come to grips with accepting that they can make money and enjoy the freedom it provides them.

I certainly know where these thoughts stem from. I grew up very poor and usually in these circumstances you turn out to think in either one of two ways…

One, you go over the top and dig yourself into debt by spending, spending spending (my sister is a good example of this unfortunately)…

“I’m not good at that”

“I couldn’t possibly charge that much for my services”

“Who am I to do something like that”

“Why is everyone else succeeding and I’m not”

STOP! If you’re having these thoughts, look in the mirror and wake up. You are sabotaging yourself and your business…

Stop wishing, hoping, wanting and start doing. Start by changing your thoughts and giving yourself a break. If your mind is in the right place and your actions are sincere, I guarantee you success will follow.

I wanted to pop in quickly and tell you about a teleseminar I just finished listening to. It was by my friend Terry Dean who is a brilliant marketer and is all about working smarter and truly enjoying your business.

As always, I was extremely impressed with Terry’s information, and it’s actually perfect timing because I’ve been mapping out a plan for my business that will carry me till the end of 2007 and into 2008.

Starting a business is the easy part… staying focused on your goals, especially during rough times, is the hard part.

I’m sure every business owner (me included) suffers from inevitable bouts of lack of motivation or direction, but it’s important to keep these in check and quickly overcome them. Here’s what I do to stay focused, successful and on track:

Write my goals down. No surprise here, but the trick for me is to break my goals down into achievable steps. Writing down a 5 year plan just doesn’t work for me, plus I think more in the moment rather than the future — life is so unpredictable and 5 years seems so far ahead to me.

Neither. I don’t believe in luck or natural talent.

It’s easy to say “She has a natural talent that I don’t” or “He’s just lucky, everything turns out his way.”

Sure some people can excel in certain areas more than others, but even if they have a ‘natural’ talent it wouldn’t mean anything if they didn’t have the right mindset to use that talent to their full advantage. This ‘natural’ talent is usually nothing more than hard work and sheer determination to succeed.

After all no matter how great an athlete is, he won’t get very far if he has low self esteem or doesn’t believe he deserves success.

A short time ago, I blogged about The 4 Hour Workweek and how to streamline your business to make more free time. I’ve put my new changes into place and have freed up quite a bit of time.

Now here’s the truth - I still work more than 4 hours a week.

The idea of a 4 hour work week is wonderful and certainly achieavable… in my previous business I got to a point where I worked no more than 8 to 10 hours a month (and that was a service business)! But unless you’ve built up a solid business foundation first, you’re going to have to put more time in.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about how things can change so quickly in life. A few years ago I was just starting online and really had no clue about anything… fast forward and things have changed dramatically.

And the change wasn’t due to me all of a sudden becoming smarter or working more. It was simply to do with changing my mindset. I know that may sound a little airy fairy to some (it did to me as well), but you truly have the ability to change your life by changing how you think.

I’ve been going through some big business changes the last few weeks. I’m completely turning my business upside down and doing things differently than I have in the past… I don’t even recognize myself!

Why?

One, because I had a conversation a few weeks ago with a close friend which made me realize life is short, and you get to a point where you have to take control and change things that just aren’t working.

Just recently I had two people ask me just how I manage to do so much. They want to know how I can run three monthly PLR memberships, a writing and transcription business, work on Moms Talk Network, handle all my other projects (yes there are more!)… and still manage to have time for myself and my family.

The truth is there isn’t a magic formula and no I haven’t discovered how to get more hours in a day. The reason I can do so much is because I have help in my business. Outsourcing for me is a must and I have a handful of people I work with on a regular basis. I also have partners who I work with so all the pressure isn’t on me.
